"I have already recommended this course to some yoga colleagues - I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was really well presented and good value for money. I liked the mix of styles that Jane and Julia both brought. Having been trained by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli myself, Julia built on the knowledge I had already got from previous training, while Janes's Embodied Yoga Principles background brought a totally fresh element to the learning for me. It has been great - thank you."

Course Outline

Bringing somatic practises into our yoga can breathe new life and creativity into our teaching, whilst allowing our students to discover the deeper realms of the somatic world of sensations, feelings and emotions and all that offers .

Somatics allows the body to sense and move rather than being imposed on. This creates fertile ground for deep nervous system regulation, self-awareness, emotional wellbeing,  playfulness and pleasure. It has the potential to waken up those more forgotten parts of our body and discover different ways to move and feel.

A somatic practise creates a sensitive and gentle container for working with stress, anxiety, burn out, fatigue, post illness and  life’s transitions and change.

This workshop will give you an understanding of what somatic practises are and the benefits of them from a bio/psycho/social lens. There will be a physical practise incorporating somatics into yoga using movement, breath and relaxation.

By the end of the workshop you will have:

  • An understanding of the principles of somatic movement.
  • How these can be a benefit from a bio/psycho/social lens.
  • Had a physical experience of how somatics can be brought into yoga practises through movement, breathwork and relaxation.
  • Learn about interoception/proprioception and why these are useful practises to cultivate within yoga."I was surprised and delighted by how much practice we did - loved the embodiment bits, they are so powerful and revealing. Both leaders are wonderfully empathetic, kind and successfully created a safe space. I find talking about personal stuff on zoom challenging (far harder than in person), yet I felt at ease and suitably supported to do so. Thanks both. ♥️🙏"
