In this episode, bursting with spring/summer vibrancy,  we’ll hear:

  • How Julia’s years of observing her menstrual cycle inform her perimenopause
  • How personality and physical seasons can conflict
  • To be observant of all the cycles around you when you don’t have a menstrual cycle
  • Living with the unknown in perimenopause
  • Observing physical and mental cues for rest
  • Navigating the sandwich of teens and ageing parents
  • The uncharted passage from perimenopause to Second Spring

In this episode we hold conversation with Julia Davis where we discussed menstruation and why it’s so important it is discussed more within the yoga community and within our practice. We talk about how Yoga can be a truly transformative tool to support menstrual cycles and what might need to change in the Yoga world to enhance greater support and understanding.

We also discussed the need for community in the Yoga Teaching World and her passion for bringing yoga teachers together to learn, share and support each other much more.

Today we’re talking stuckness. Specifically feeling stuck in perimenopause. But feeling stuck, frozen, ignored, trapped, dead-ended, stiffed… whatever you call it, is something that we can all relate to.

There’s a lot spoken about the overwhelm from being too busy in perimenopause, but almost none about how it is when it’s not busy enough. Except perhaps in our heads!

Julia Davis is a yoga teacher, mentor and trainer, a specialist in women’s health, and the founder of Yoga Teachers Forum.

Julia is a yoga teacher who specialises in menstruation and “women’s issues”. She educates Mark about women’s cycles and how they effect life and yoga practice, and offers many useful do’s and don’ts related to women’s bleed. They also hit on gender differences in anatomy and practice, form vs free yoga, Western yoga, yoga in daily life, abuse in yoga, copyright issues vs generosity, hyper-mobility, why more women do yoga than men, shame and menstruation, how men can be left out of modern yoga, and awareness and self-care as the key. She also offers a calming alternate-nostril breathing exercise. Another fun and educational chat.
